About the organization: Help Educate was founded and is managed by former Peace Corps Volunteers and adheres to the principles of sustainable, localized development. The idea for the nonprofit came about in 2003 when one Peace Corps Volunteer conducted a community needs assessment with his youth group in the farming community of El Jícaro, in northern Nicaragua. The students overwhelmingly prioritized university scholarships as their greatest need.
In December of 2007, Help Educate was recognized as a 501(c)(3) Public Charity, allowing us to accept tax deductible donations.
Help Educate’s founding members are former Peace Corps Volunteers who lived and worked in Nicaraguan communities for two years. From Peace Corps, we learned the power of community and volunteer driven development. Humbled and inspired by the perseverance, generosity, and depth of knowledge of the Nicaraguans we worked with, we work to give the tool of higher education to students who will drive their communities forward.
